A Cidery with Deep Roots in Sunnyside

Did you know SunnyCider was born right here in Sunnyside? The idea started in 2013 when a group of neighbours came together to figure out what to do with all the apples in their yards. After experimenting with everything from apple sauce to juice, they landed on the perfect solution—craft cider. After years of perfecting their recipes, co-founders Tim Kitchen, Darlene Kitchen, and Dennis Scanland officially launched Alberta’s first craft cidery in 2018. Their very first taproom opened in May 2019, and their award-winning ciders can now be found in over 150 liquor stores and 75 restaurants across Alberta. Even today, they continue to integrate locally sourced fruit, keeping Calgary as their orchard! (SunnyCider, 2025).
