Hillhurst Sunnyside Planning Committee
About
The Hillhurst Sunnyside Planning Committee (HSPC) is a committee of the Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association (HSCA) that reports to the HSCA Board of Directors. The committee is made up of residents from Hillhurst and Sunnyside who have a keen interest in the way our communities redevelop. This is achieved by building positive relationships with various stakeholders, our ward councillor, and City of Calgary administration.
How the Planning Committee Works
November 2024 Update: The HSCA Planning Coordinator position is currently vacant. During this time, the HSCA Planning Committee will continue to meet, informally, to discuss planning and development matters, however no formal comment will be submitted to the City of Calgary on behalf of HSCA. Further, the Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP) is in the process of being replaced by the Rilep Local Area Plan (LAP). Currently the Planning Committee Terms of Reference are written in reference to the ARP and will need to be revised upon Council approval of the Riley LAP.
The HSCA Planning Committee has no formal jurisdiction or authority in planning matters. We are unable to reject or approve development applications. The HSPC represents the interests of the community by carrying out its mandate from the HSCA and its Board of Directors under its Terms of Reference (TOR), which were ratified by the Board of Directors in November 2013 and revised in January 2018. You can access the TOR by clicking the button below.
The HSPC plays a valuable role for the HSCA by:
Providing advice, background information, community context, and feedback on development applications in Hillhurst and Sunnyside to the HSCA Board, the City of Calgary, residents, and applicants.
Expressing the aspirations of the Community Association to the City of Calgary and to applicants.
Advocating for development that fulfills the vision as described in the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Area Redevelopment Plan.
Planning Committee Meetings
The purpose of HSCA Planning Committee meetings is to create the opportunity for residents to discuss current applications and share ideas which may help develop individual responses to the City on these applications.
Planning Committee meetings take place online on the first Thursday of each month. If you are a resident of Hillhurst Sunnyside and are interested in attending an upcoming meeting, please email hspc@hsca.ca to be added to the contact list.
HSCA will regularly share information about upcoming land use and development applications via social media. If you are registered to attend a meeting, you will also receive a list of the applications that will be discussed during the upcoming meeting approximately one week before it occurs.
