June is National Indigenous History Month

As we all live, work, and play on the traditional territories of the Treaty 7 First Nations, we have a responsibility to educate ourselves on the diverse peoples whose land we share. While this month it is important to listen, learn, and celebrate the heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples, there are many ways to be an ally year-round. Events

  • Highbanks Society: National Indigenous Peoples Day Event

    National Indigenous Peoples Day occurs on June 21st and is part of Aboriginal Awareness Week in Calgary. NIPD is a day of celebration, recognizing and honouring Residential School Survivors and the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. This is the perfect opportunity for communities to reflect on, and contribute to, working to advance reconciliation as part of the 94 Calls to Action included on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report.

  • Aboriginal Awareness Week Calgary (AAWC)

    This year, the theme for Aboriginal Awareness Week Calgary (AAWC)  is “KEEPING THE CIRCLE STRONG – “Honoring Mother Earth and water”. Visit the AAWC website to learn more and to check out this year's community events.
